Chinese New Year Letter

Dear friends, family, random strangers on the internet. I hope you are all doing well.

Tomorrow is the Lunar New Year, the first day of a week long of celebrations and family time. The year of the pig is a lucky year! Full of good fortune, health and happiness.

This year has already been a year of changes. I have started working as a Instructor at BCIT- one the largest and best technical schools in the world. It’s where I graduated from and took the first steps I needed to start Compevo.com

From this experience, I want others to know that you are never too old to learn new things. You have to apply yourself each day. Learn each day. Those 3 years that I was sitting at home doing nothing, begging my employees to toss me some tickets to answer, I was left with nothing but the mundane activity of daily life.  But it wasn’t all boring, I took the time to learn new things, and spend time with my wife and children. Our lives are our kids and the time we spend together. But with the kids at school, I was left to just play and read tech all day. With BCIT I’m applying myself, I’m giving something back, and it helped me to become a better speaker, to teach on a level that others will understand, and it’s helped me to become more social. Tech is now a more social sector, and tech geeks like myself cannot stay hidden in our computer caves.

So go out there  and apply yourself. Learn new things and explore. Use this new year to start fresh and embark on new projects. That may be as small as learning to draw or learning a new skill, or as life changing as getting fit or starting a side hustle. Whatever you dreamed of doing, make the first steps in 2019. The year of the pig is a very lucky year, so use this year to set the foundation for whatever your goals are.

I want to thank my employees in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and the US. Thank you for all your hard work. You guys/gals are my team, and have been a pillar for me. Thank you for remaining loyal and honest and taking care of my companies. I am honored that I have you in my team.

Thank you to my dear clients, who chose us, who chose security.  I set up my cloud services to be different than the others, and I created an AWS killer that still left you with control of your company and data because I believe in security. Trust is something that matters to me, so thank you for placing your trust in us.

Thank you to my friends and colleagues and you the random stranger on the net for reading my blogs, following me on twitter and Instagram. Though we may not meet (unless you’re stalking me), I appreciate the time you take to read my posts). To my friends, it’s great to meet up every now and then and connect. I have a very small and tight circle of friends that I trust, and I thank you for being supportive of my endeavors.

Last but not least, to my dear wife and kids. I am a very fortunate man to have met and married my best friend. My wife has honestly been my life line, the coach to my life, the inspiration and encouragement that led me to where I am. You gave me happiness, love and two incredible children. I look forward to many many long happy years together. I could not ask for a more supportive and kind person to share my life with. God has truly blessed me.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous new year! It’s the year of the pig so it’s going to be a great year for health, finances and luck! Make the best of it!

Cheers,

A.Yasir

Business and technology have always gone hand in hand for me, and now I've built nearly 20 years of expertise. A few notable achievements: -> Tier III-Designed & deployed multiple mission critical datacenter environments in Canada, US, Hong Kong, Singapore & China. -> Software Engineering: Created a Linux OS from scratch, including a custom kernel to maintain millions of dollars in client infrastructure, deploy and report as needed. Created the “Windows Geeks” and “Password Pros” Windows Password Reset software recommended by Microsoft. -> Business Negotiations: Conducted intensive negotiations with branches of the Peoples Republic of China and the various state-run Telecom operations including China Telecom and China Unicom for access to their trillion dollar backbone infrastructure. We were the first western company to have such network access where other IT companies such as Vodafone and Google failed. -> Cloud Infrastructure Creation: Created the first proprietary “Clustered Cloud Architecture” that rivals competing Google, IBM, Microsoft & Alibaba alternatives. I'd love to chat #IT or #Linux or even #Business, so don't hesitate to connect. Cheers!
