Protonmail’s History of Swiss and US Government Compliance

I’ve said it repeatedly that countries like Switzerland which are for some reason bizarrely recommended as being safe and private are simply not.  Switzerland is well-known for example to be a proxy for multiple government intelligence operations from the US and Germany, like Crypto AG.  The Switzerland government reviewed the request from the US, then ordered Proton to comply with the now “valid legal request”,  and then an Atlanta based activist is now being pursued by the FBI.

I included a handful of other known similar cases from Proton, including the suspension of activists accounts from Korea and another case related to Spanish independence.  They now finally seem to realize in 2025 that Switzerland is not safe and are now moving their infrastructure elsewhere, but apparently still in dangerous Europe.

For those who actually want real privacy and security, you need to operate in a jurisdiction like Hong Kong.  Then you need to control and host your own e-mail and other applications.
